Her diverse skills and expertise, paired with her multicultural teaching experiences, allow her to relate to people from different cultures. She exudes passion and precision in her approach to performances,
always striving for excellence while keeping learning creative, innovative, fresh, and fun
Sarah’s musical journey began three generations ago with her maternal Great-Grandfather, Harry St. Pierre, a beloved Southern Louisiana family man, musician and educator. Although he passed before Sarah was born, she always grew-up knowing of the important role he played in her life. For her 18th birthday, Sarah was given one of his treasured violins. The first song she chose to play was Amazing Grace, which remains her favorite today.
Sarahs musical mother started her on piano at the age of four then brought her to her first violin lesson a year later in kindergarten. Her mom worked tirelessly to invest in Sarah's natural abilities and passion for music. Sarah fell in love with the art of music making and could often be found practicing, listening, composing and humming tunes in her head for endless hours.
By the third grade, Sarah was competing and performing regularly. She even performed at the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans as a guest young artist on both piano and violin. She later was featured in a New Orleans TV
special called, Extraordinary Kids.
In her teens, Sarah was already teaching in her own studio, conducting music camps, competing and performing rigorously, traveling to do mission work In Mexico and Russia (pictured here at 16 with Russian children) and busy setting the stage for her future.
After spending some time in Russia at age 16, she knew living and working abroad was something she wanted to do. Sarah returned home to study, become a certified teacher and later returned at the age of 21 to teach with the Department of Education in Moscow. Her life there from 1998-2001 was simple, meaningful and full of joy as she lived and worked in a government orphanage/school teaching classroom music, piano and violin.
in 2001, Sarah found herself back home in New Orleans, La expanding her education, family and future opportunities. She married Tim Walker, also a professional musician and together they began their journey...
Bailey (02) and Bliss (09) have completed the Walker family. Together, they live in Jackson, MS where they all live full and busy lives! Bailey plays varsity football and Bliss cheers. Dr. Tim Walker serves as choral director at Belhaven University and also as Worship Pastor at Christ United Church. The family motto, "What we do, we do together" is lived out everyday in the Walker household.
For Sarah, teaching is a way of life, a calling from God, and one of her greatest joys! She currently teaches at St. Andrew's Episcopal Lower School as the Performing Arts director, a job that is more of a dream than a job. She also manages Sarah Walker Studios and is very active in her music, school, church and local communities.
Sarah's inventive and creative, Violin Karate method was born out of a desire to modernize violin skills from her lifetime of learning; mixing the BEST songs and skills in a step by step, easy to use, fun and fresh approach. Whether learning in groups or privately, kids LOVE earning colored belts with each new level they master.
The story continues while Sarah is always busy developing new ways to leave lasting impacts on those around her. Her heritage, her passion and her calling all propelling the way for the future! While many of her students have gone on to pursue Master Degree's in Music, others are successfully living their best lives and being cheered on by their biggest fan, Mrs Walker!
